3 Things I do to Stay Young: A Fitness Guide to Ageless Living

A lot of people ask me how I stay so active at my age, and my answer is always the same: age is just a number! At 60, I’m still chasing my fitness goals, traveling the world, and feeling stronger than ever. Staying young isn’t about trying to turn back the clock—it’s about taking care of your mind and body so you can enjoy every chapter of life. Here are three things I do to keep feeling youthful, energized, and ready to take on whatever comes my way.

1. Keep Moving—Every Single Day

When I say keep moving, I don’t mean you have to hit the gym and lift heavy weights every day (though I do love a good strength workout). Staying active can be as simple as taking a walk, stretching, or even dancing around the house. Movement keeps your body young by maintaining muscle mass, boosting your cardiovascular health, and improving flexibility.

For me, I’ve made it a rule to do something physical daily—whether it’s yoga, swimming, hiking, or even bodyweight exercises in the park. These activities keep my joints healthy and give me a mental boost. The key is consistency. You don’t have to train like you’re prepping for the Olympics—just make moving a non-negotiable part of your day.

2. Nourish Your Body Like It’s the Only One You’ve Got

At 60, I don’t have the luxury of eating like I did when I was 30. Back then, I could get away with eating junk food and still feel fine. These days, I focus on fueling my body with foods that promote longevity and keep me feeling my best. That means plenty of vegetables, lean proteins, healthy fats, and complex carbs.

One of my secrets? Hydration and balance. I drink water like it’s going out of style, and I never skip my greens. That doesn’t mean I don’t indulge—I believe life’s too short not to enjoy the occasional slice of cake or a good burger—but I’m mindful of what I eat most of the time. It’s about finding what works for your body and fueling it with foods that help you feel strong and vibrant.

3. Prioritize Mental Wellness as Much as Physical Fitness

Staying young isn’t just about how strong you are or how many miles you can run. It’s about feeling good in your own skin, and that starts with mental wellness. I’ve learned over the years that stress can take a toll on your body faster than anything else. That’s why I make time for things like meditation, mindfulness, and simply enjoying the moment.

One of my favorite ways to keep my mind sharp is through hobbies and learning. Whether it’s reading, traveling, or picking up a new skill, I always keep my brain engaged. It’s amazing how staying curious and open to new experiences can make you feel younger at heart.

At 60, I’m more focused than ever on living a full, healthy life. These three habits—moving daily, eating right, and caring for my mental health—are my recipe for staying young. Life doesn’t slow down as you age, and neither should you! Remember, it’s never too late to take charge of your health and feel youthful, no matter your age.
